Vtg Signed RICHARD AERNI Ash Glazed Stoneware STUDIO POTTERY Centerpiece Bowl. This is an outstand example of the Artist's best work- colors are exceptionally rich and distinct, the glaze pattern is raised to be dimensional as well as aesthetically pleasing. Wheel thrown stoneware platter, slip decorated rim and center, glazed with multiple stoneware and wood ash glazes, fired in a reduction atmosphere to 2380 F. Rochester NY based Master Potter, Richard Aerni is well known for his beautiful use of natural ash glazes and elegant style of stoneware pottery, all hand made and hand fired.
He has been exhibited in numerous Galleries and Exhibitions throughout the US, and has been working as a Pottery Artist since the late 1970s. This is a magnificent, Gallery-quality piece, fully finished with glaze on sides and back. This piece is wide with a very nicely finished curved lip edge- can be viewed as either a wide bowl or a platter dish. No chips, nicks, cracks, crazing or wear to glaze- in perfect shape. Colors are rich and vibrant, glaze is without flaws or damage.
Color at rim and underside is a deep rich burnished charcoal tone. This piece is meant to be decorative and the Artist refers to this style as a Centerpiece Platter Bowl. It can also be hung on a wall to enjoy as a piece of visual Art. Fabulous piece, very unusual, great for a collector.
