Vtg Rare JT Abernathy b. 1923 Studio Pottery Vase Raku Copper Cranbrook Academy

World re-known Master Potter with a careerning six decades. Graduate of the Cranbrook Academy of Art in West Bloomfield, Michigan receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Ceramics and a Master of Fine Arts degree in kiln-building. Professor and head of the Ceramics department at The University of Michigan beginning in 1951. At 95 years of age, Abernathy continues to live and work in Ann Arbor, MI. Studio Pottery Raku Vase with Copper Luster Glaze.

Green glaze with highly reflective metallic copper glaze. Off white band through the mid section of the piece. Stunning, unusually rare in style and size for Abernathy. Bottom signed with iconic JT initials with additional RS mark (may have been a collaboration or reference for artist).
