Vintage MCM Myrton Purkiss Ceramic Plate Studio Pottery Starbursts & Leafy Flourishes Signed. From the sandy beach base color, complete with randomly scattered flecks and grains, to the hand painted gold, rust and brown celestial galaxy of stars, this vintage Myrton Purkiss studio crafted art pottery piece definitely has more going on than meets the eye. A one-of-a-kind decorative plate, the natural, organic and fluid design includes skillfully applied leafy flourishes, brown circular planetary dots, white accent spots, and spattered patches of color in the background. Underneath the glossy finish, the deep groove lines on the front seem to tell the story of the artist forming the ceramic with their hands. The heavily textured reverse has the look and feel of Mid Century hand-crafted pottery.

It is signed in the ceramic on the back/bottom with "PURKISS". There are other marks that include stars and rectangles. Along the outer edge in black is "PURKISS" and the number "49".

One of the paper labels on the back/bottom has the number "1748" and the other one is only a partial label. What's left reads Designed, Made By, M. This item is in close to very good pre-owned vintage condition. There are no cracks, repairs or crazing in the glaze.

There are signs of wear from age, use and storage, which includes but is not limited to a chip on the back/bottom foot of the plate, it is missing part of the original paper label and. A few scuff/scratch marks on the front. That are to see because they blend in with the design/coloring. Due to the hand-crafting process involved in creating this piece, there may be a few naturally occurring unique imperfections such as extra bits of clay material and variation in the design, coloring and finish.
