Abraham (Abe) Cohn Studio Art Pottery. Vase - Circa 1963- Midcentury Modernist - Wisconsin. Cohn, known for high-fired stoneware pottery, developed his own glazes and often applied colored slips. Cohn mentored many potters and was instrumental in making Door County, Wisconsin a destination for potters and pottery collectors.
This unusual vase has a brown and blueish gray glazed--almost metallic--body decorated with a purposely ragged and dimensional brown glazed trim. Lip opening is curled down over the neck. Hand incised CP (Cohn Pottery) mark in circle with studio number notes in pen 84 9.The CP mark dates the piece to around 1963. 3.5 inches at widest; 5.5 inches tall; 2-1/8 inches base diameter; 7/8 inches opening diameter.
