Great Brutalist / Modernist Pottery by Neal Townsend, 1934 to 2002. The mouth and base are smooth, but the middle section has a light mauve pitted glaze with metallic (manganese) elements making speckled areas. The glaze could also be described as cratered, foamy, lava or in the style of Lucie Rie. The shoulder has abstract artwork that has pooled with the glaze.

Marked on the bottom with Neal Townsend's Ant Mark. A very nice vintage vase with a lot of visual and textural interest. Neal Townsend, 1934 to 2002. Listed artist on AskArt and on The Marks Project.

An artist and teacher who created jewelry, sculpture, ceramics, drawings and paintings during a 45-year career. He earned his BFA and MA in Fine Arts from The University of New Mexico, where he taught for 21 years. He also taught at Northeast Louisiana State College, Vancouver School of Fine Art, in Canada, Northern Arizona University, as well as workshops throughout New Zealand. Neal's work has been exhibited in more than 250 juried and invitational shows in the United States and abroad.
