Up for sale is this Vintage Walter Dexter Original Stoneware Studio Pottery Vase. About Walter Dexter w/ his signatures etc.. Dexter formally studied ceramics at the then Alberta College of Art and later the Swedish School of Arts and Crafts.

Dexter is renowned for his experimentations and unique approach to Japanese ceramic Raku processes. His approach to ceramics ultimately transcended the form and and is often read through the lens of abstract expressionistic painting; and later on figurative sculpture in his series of torso vases. Dexter had a significant solo exhibition of his works in 1995 at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria as well as a book Walter Dexter: The Torso Masterworks published in 2012, a few years prior to his passing. His work are in the permanent collections of the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria, the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, the Winnipeg Art Gallery, the Burlington Art Centre and the Canadian Museum of Civilization, among many others.

This museum quality gorgeous stoneware vase by Dexter is a striking example of Dexter's painterly approach to ceramics with his use of masterful brushwork and layered application of colour. This piece is signed on the bottom and is in very good rustic condition.

Condition: Very Good Rustic - The top has a worn look with white but may be a process he used? There is a black paint spot I show in the last picture that I do think is original! May have some ware due to age. If you are not satisfied please contact me before opening a case.
