This listing is for a Vintage Mid Century Modern 1950's Era Signed Edna Arnow Chicago Artist Studio Art Pottery Vase. 11 inches tall, 1 1/2 inches top rim diameter, 3 1/2 inches base diameter and about 4 1/2 inches widest diameter, in excellent vintage as shown condition. Edna Arnow was part of the important artist collective Exhibit A Gallery, together with Earl Hooks, Leo Segedin, Eve Garrison, Frank Petersen, Tristan Meinecke. The one side was intentionally left unglazed the narrowest part that measures 1 1/2.

The design and execution is outstanding, probably made in the late 1950s. The exterior is covered with various textures and colors. Edna Arnow is a well-known American / Chicago studio potter and sculptor. Famous for offering Pottery in Chicago's Old Town Art Fair , always wearing a large hat and renowned for her owl sculptures, at a later point of her life, became motivated to create modern sculpture, and became famous amongst the collectors of 20th Century Modern Art. She had her works displayed at major galleries and museums, including The Art Institute of Chicago.

She exhibited her work at The Art Institute of Chicago, at The Chicago Public Library, and at the Ceramic Nationals in Syracuse, New York in 1956 and in 1962. She attended The Art Institute of Chicago and was taught by Leah Balsham, she taught at the Evanston Art Center at a later point of her life. Edna Arnow developed distinctive textured glazes and clay bodies and worked in the mid-century modern style as an innovator in form, design, and surface glaze treatments. Today the studio ceramics of Edna Arnow are held in important collections of American studio pottery and Museums.
