This piece has a textured exterior which has flowing gray and white glazes, with a touch of blue. It has a four-sided rim.This pot is approximately 4 5/8 inches tall, and it has a maximum width of about 3 1/2 inches. Unpacked, it weighs 15.0 ounces. This clay body is a dark brick color.
This would be a wonderful addition to a studio ceramics collection. Identification The base is marked, Mary E. Per the Vasefinder Online Museum, Erckenbrack was Seattle-born, but grew up in Rio De Janeiro, London, and Paris. She studied at the University of Washington, and in Le Havre, France.Erckenbrack was a student of Alexander Archipenko. She was a painter and a printmaker, in addition to being a potter. She set up her studio, Mary E's Mudshop, in San Francisco during the 1930s. Erckenbrack exhibited at the Nationals in 1947 and 1949.
Condition This piece looks very good overall, with no chips or cracks. It has very light wear. Variations in shape and glazing are as made; there are some thicker / thinner glaze areas.
