This is a wonderful piece from an early period in Hui's career. Standing 3 ¼ inches high and spanning 5 ½ inches wide to the handle, this piece is a quintessential example of mid-century modern design, featuring a striking wax resist pattern with abstract, radiating swirls. Crafted with substantial weight, this piece is nearly 1 ½ pounds.

Well signed with incised signature on the bottom and in perfect condition with no chips, cracks, or damage of any kind. After immigrating to the United States in 1948, Hui studied at the renowned Pond Farm Workshop under the tutelage of Marguerite Wildenhain and Frans Wildenhain, two of the most respected figures in the studio pottery movement. His time at Pond Farm significantly influenced his approach to ceramics, blending traditional Chinese artistry with modern American sensibilities.

Hui's work has been featured in prominent collections, including the Brooklyn Museum and the Everson Museum of Art, solidifying his legacy as a pivotal figure in the studio craft movement.
