Vintage James Lovera Pottery Vessel Description and Item Information Up for sale is this vintage James Lovera studio art pottery deep bowl or open form vase. Please excuse the glare in the photos. This hand thrown piece is approximately 4 1/2 inches tall, 7 5/16 inches long, and 7 1/8 inches wide.

Unpacked, it weighs 1 pound 7.8 ounces. The glaze is brown with a hint of olive green; there are subtle streaks in the glaze. The stoneware clay body is exposed at the foot and base.

Per Vasefinder, Lovera was educated at the California School of Fine Arts in San Francisco. For many years, he taught at CSU San Jose with Herbert Sanders. During the 1950s, he exhibited at the Association of San Francisco Potters, and at the Pacific Coast Ceramic Exhibition and Sale. In 1952, Lovera exhibited at the Los Angeles County Fair's 6000 Years Art in Clay. He exhibited at the Nationals for many years (1946 to 194 9, 1952, 1954, 1958, 1960, 1962, 1964, and 1966). Condition This pot looks great overall, with no chips or cracks. Variations in shape (slight asymmetry) and glaze application are as made.
