This pot has a yellow glaze, and the brick red clay body shows through, especially at the rim. This piece is approximately 5 5/16 inches tall, with a maximum diameter of about 5 7/8 inches. Unpacked, it weighs 2 pounds 5.5 ounces. It would be a fine addition to a collection of vintage American studio ceramics. Sanders is listed within the Vasefinder online museum.
Per Vasefinder, Sanders studied under Arthur Baggs at Ohio State University, where he received his doctorate. He set up the ceramics department at CSU San Jose, and he subsequently taught there for decades. Sanders is known for the glazes that he developed.
He exhibited many times at the Nationals during the 1930s through the 1960s. Condition This pot looks great overall, with no chips or cracks.It has light wear and very fine, unstained crazing.
