This pot has superb decoration which includes abstract patterns. This item stands approximately 8 1/16 inches tall; it has a maximum width of about 4 11/16 inches.

Unpacked, it weighs 2 pounds 4.0 ounces. This would be a fine addition to a collection of vintage American studio ceramics. Identification This pot is by the San Diego, California potter, John W. Novy is listed in the Vasefinder online museum. Per Vasefinder, Novy is a third generation potter originally from Vienna, Austria.

He started working with clay around 1950. He lived in South Dakota prior to moving to San Diego. He made primarily functional stoneware and porcelain.

Condition The vase looks very good overall, with light wear. There are no cracks or chips.

There are some metallic scuff marks which I have not tried to clean. Variations in glazing are as made.
