Vintage Australian Studio Pottery Jug Ewer Vase Ellis MID Century
VINTAGE AUSTRALIAN STUDIO POTTERY JUG EWER VASE ELLIS MID CENTURY. STUNNING VINTAGE AUSTRALIAN POTTERY EWER JUG. Presenting a striking vintage Australian Studio pottery jug. This stunning piece has a wonderfully sculptural and perfectly balanced modernist form which is exactly the same as other examples we have owned in the past which were created by Ellis and retained an Ellis label. However this piece is unsigned, without a label and finished in a glaze totally unlike any other Ellis pieces we have ever seen.
Is this an unusual or experimentally glazed Ellis piece or the work of someone else who copied the iconic Ellis form? We will leave you to decide. There is no doubting this is an exceptionally attractive modernist piece! This jug is finished in a vibrant red glossy glaze with a lustrous metallic gold glaze atop. The lustrous gold glaze forms random cellular outlines surrounding the vibrant red below, creating an exceptionally striking glaze combination.
The mouth of the vessel is finished in red glaze without the gold adding fabulous depth to the form. This beautifully designed piece has a wide "UFO" shaped body leading to a long gently tapered neck and bird beak top rim.
A sleekly curved handle perfectly balances the form. This striking piece is presented in excellent vintage condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. There are a few small spots in the "hard to reach" sections of the handle where the glaze has not taken, allowing the white body to show through. These are noticeable only on extremely close examination but mentioned for complete accuracy. This piece has been exceptionally well cared for and presents spectacularly.
This impressive piece stands approx 260mms tall and measures 175mms in diameter at its widest. This piece weighs 770 grams unpackaged. This exquisite piece would make an outstanding addition to any A us tralian pottery or Mid 20th century design collection.
