Spectacular Mid-Century William + Polia Pillin Drip Glaze Vase, c. This ceramic vase is a collaborative work by William and Polia Pillin.

It's simply a stunning example of drip glaze effects and a real technical tour de force (one of the two or three best Pillin drip glaze pots I've had in my collection). Angular, shouldered vase form, with a tapered, flaring neck extending from the top. This vase is very heavy and substantial; the walls are unusually thick for a Pillin piece. Decorated in flowing, frothy drips of blues, reds, oranges, yellows and white with a glossy overglaze. A very textural, organic feel; with a lot variegation and subtle color fracturing.

Dimensions: 10" high x 6-1/4" in diameter (at widest); the rim is 1-1/4" in diameter; the base is 3-1/4" in diameter. This is in excellent vintage condition, with two pinhead-sized fleabites to the gloss overglaze on the edge of the rim, and no other chips, cracks, repairs or other problems. It's also totally uncrazed (very unusual for a Pillin piece). Incised on the base: "W+P Pillin" (the "W+P" and top stroke of the "P" are obscured by black slip). Four areas of wheel grinding on the base (original to the piece) to remove excess drips and make it stand level, and the usual three stilt pulls. Note: The white hotspots and reflections are from the lights. This item is in the category "Pottery & Glass\Decorative Pottery & Glassware\Vases".
