Rare Bryan Newman Studio Pottery Art Sculpture Houses with Boat Vintage SALE
Rare Striking Bryan Newman Studio Pottery British Art Sculpture Houses with Boat Vintage Retro. Born in 1935 in London, Newman trained and taught ceramics at Camberwell School of Art in the 1950s. He developed precision and fluency in throwing and explored glazes and kiln firing. In 1966, he moved to Somerset to set up his own studio with his wife Julia. He made a range of thrown domestic stoneware and also highly collectable distinctive sculptural pieces which are assembled from thrown and slabbed units into intricate forms, boats, buildings, housescapes and bridges. Work represented in the V & A Museum, London. This is a very striking, rare hand-modelled stoneware sculpture form comprising groups of buildings on a boat by Bryan Newman at Aller Pottery in Somerset, circa 1970s. A very similar piece Houses with Motorway can be found in the V & A Museum Collection. A tiny chip at the corner edge of the boat (barely noticeable), otherwise.
