Neville French Porcelain Bowl. Australian Studio Pottery

A porcelain bowl hand-crafted by Neville French. Slightly oval in form, a delicate pastel peach glaze to the interior, ice white for the exterior. Signed on the underside with his painted F. In excellent vintage condition, no chips or cracks, just some very light crazing to the exterior.

French's pared down porcelain structures explore a sincere engagement with the environment, paying homage to vast topographies, and silent, spiritual landscapes. A guiding principle of French's work is the transformative effect of light on surface planes but through this mechanism, his works summon the eye across solid forms and into hollow spaces.

By gently manipulating his thrown vessels French has developed a unique visual language, in an attempt to distil the very essence of place. This relationship is further grounded through hand crafted glazes created from materials which French personally mines at various locations around Australia. French is a celebrated artist whose work is held in various state and national institutions such as the National Gallery of Australia and the National Gallery of Victoria. While I do my best to reproduce the true colours of the pieces, they will vary slightly from system to system, and in actual viewing they will vary under differing lighting. All white spots are purely light reflections from the camera flash. The item will first be wrapped bubble before packing securely in a solid box with lots of peanuts - earthquake proof. Just occasionally this could extend to 2-3 days, however.
