Leon Volkmar Durant Kilns New York Arts Crafts Period Studio Pottery
Charles Volkmar Durant Kilns outstanding example. From what I can tell the DP mark on this piece would make it very early in the production at Durant Kilns. 1910 is a safe attribution if, in fact, the information is correct on page 93 of Evans Art Pottery of the United States With very few exceptions in 1910, prior to the pottery's formal establishment, every piece of work bears the Durant name and date incised.
Anyone that knows Durant Kilns and Leon Volkmars work will be able to see what a fine example this is. Just compare it to the pieces you see in the various museums that display Volkmar, would you trade? 10 tall 4.5 diameter at mouth. No chips cracks or repairs.
