This would be a fine addition to a collection of American studio ceramics. Identification This Karl Rhode-Hamel vase has a chop mark to the lower exterior, and it has the artist's label beneath. It is vintage, but the exact age is not known. Rhode-Hamel (1906 - 1989) is listed in the Vasefinder online museum. Per Vasefinder, he was the spouse of potter Irene Rhode-Hamel.
He lived in San Francisco and Bodega Bay, California. Rhode-Hamel exhibited at the Pacific Coast Exhibition and Sale in Oakland, California during the 1950s, at the 1950 Association of San Francisco Potters showing, at the Decorator's Big Show of San Francisco during the 1950s, at the 1953 Bodega Bay Allied Arts show, and at the Bodega Bay Yacht Club in 1981. He also exhibited at the Nationals during 1949, 1951, and 1954. Rhode-Hamel was President of the Bodega Bay Allied Arts and he was a member of the American Institute of Interior Designers.Condition This piece looks great overall, with no chips or cracks.
