Please excuse any glare in the photos. This vertically ribbed jardiniere or planter pot is approximately 6 1/4 inches tall, with a maximum width of about 7 5/8 inches.
Unpacked, it weighs 5 pounds 12.8 ounces. It is brown stoneware glazed in white with dark brown mottling. It would be a fine addition to a collection of American studio ceramics. He is listed in the Vasefinder online museum. Per Vasefinder, Zamantakis was born in Utah.
He was educated at the University of Denver, obtaining his B. In 1950 and his M. There Zamantakis was a student of John Billmyer, Charles Raymus, and Richard Sorby. He studied wood firing in Kyoto, Japan in 1969.He taught at the junior high, high school, and college level. Zamantakis exhibited at the International House of Denver and at the Nationals in 1960. His work is in the collections of the Vance Kirkland Museum and the Denver Art Museum. Condition The pot looks great overall, with very light wear, and no chips or cracks. There is some fine crazing to the interior bottom.
