Fabulous Vintage Diana Worthy Crich Studio Pottery Lamp

Fabulous Studio pottery table lamp by Diana Worthy, Crich pottery. A studio pottery table lamp from c1970/80s decorated in Diana Worthy's distinctive style of overlapping colours and stylised foliage marked out in sgraffito, in a gloss glaze. The inside of the lamp base is unglazed.

Last Pat Tested - November 2021. The lamp base (including the bulb holder) is 33 cm (13 inches) in height and has a maximum diameter of 10 cm (4 inches).

Diana Worthy's pottery is usually Inscribed on the underside with the Crich Pottery mark, a'P' within a'C', but as the lamp is open on the underside there is no mark. Diana's pots show her love of nature, featuring hills, trees, flowers and leaves and to her constant preoccupation with and love of colour. Decorative techniques involve using many layers of coloured glazes, made at the pottery, either by dipping or pouring over the biscuit ware (once fired).

Each glaze interacts and reacts to produce different colours. The next stage involves drawing designs into the dried glazes (sgraffito) then blending everything together with a final overspray of glaze which again, changes the colours (acknowledgement to Joan Witham for this description of Diana Worthy's technique).
