This handsome vessel from a Santa Fe estate. Volckening was a master potter from the San Francisco Bay area. He graduated from the California College of Arts & Crafts (Oakland) and received an M.

He won a Fullbright Scholarship to study ceramics in Helsinki from 1958-59 and taught at New Mexico Highlands University. He was a student of Antonio Pretio and an artist in residence at the Archiebray Foundation in the 1950s.
