Please excuse the glare in the photos.This piece is approximately 6 3/4 inches tall, 6 1/4 inches long, and 3 3/8 inches wide. Unpacked, it weighs 15.4 ounces. This figural piece has a mottled dark brown and white glazed body, with matte black wings.
It would be a fine addition to a collection of American studio ceramics. Identification This vintage piece is marked beneath, lovera.Per Vasefinder, Lovera was educated at the California School of Fine Arts in San Francisco. For many years, he taught at CSU San Jose with Herbert Sanders. During the 1950s, he exhibited at the Association of San Francisco Potters, and at the Pacific Coast Ceramic Exhibition and Sale. In 1952, Lovera exhibited at the Los Angeles County Fair's 6000 Years Art in Clay. He exhibited at the Nationals for many years (1946 to 1949, 1952, 1954, 1958, 1960, 1962, 1964, and 1966). Condition This piece looks very good overall, with no post-production chips or cracks. There are a couple of short and tight firing fissures to the base.
The piece has very light wear. The base is somewhat rough in texture, as made. Payments must be received within three days of the end of the listing, unless prior arrangements have been made.
