CLARENCE ATTRIDGE Vintage Studio Pottery Vase 9 1/2 Large & Heavy Bodied

Here is an interesting vase by listed artist Clarence Attridge. It measures 9 1/2" tall x 5 1/4" in diameter. This piece is very heavy, closer to stoneware in weight. It is hand-turned, and flattened at 8 points around the circumference. It is also incised, and finished in brown tones and cream on the exterior, and has a bright orange glaze on the interior.

You'll note the 6 incised circles that are uneven and stacked on each other on each panel, but one of the panels has only 5 circles, yet is equal in length to the others. In very good original condition, there are no cracks, chips, or hairlines.

A few minimal rough spots around the bottom rim, none of them being objectionable or visible when upright. Incised script signature on the bottom as shown. Attridge was born in New York, NY in 1907. Prior to moving to the San Diego, California area he lived in Rochester, New York.

He received his initial art training from the Mechanics Institute (now the Rochester Institute of Technology). After art school Attridge worked for many years as a scenic artist painting scenes for theaters on Broadway. He also designed and painted murals for churches, theaters, and for the homes of people of influence. For years Attridge was an art teacher. He exhibited widely in San Diego and Southern California.

Winning many awards in the venues in which he exhibited his works. He passed away in Oceanside, CA in 1992.
