Vintage Doug DeLind Raku-Glazed Vessel Modernist Studio Pottery Textured Art Sculpture, Lansing, Mich igan. Brutalist modern Cubist style signed vase sculpture. Lansing, Michigan artist Doug DeLind is known for his expertise in raku fired pottery.

Raku--a firing technique that originated in Japan--uses extreme temperature and atmospheric changes that create unpredictable dramatic and colorful glaze effects. This Brutalist raku-fired vessel has a unique finish on its multi-textured surface.

The vase body is a textured multicolored abstract with matte. Depending on the light, rusty reds are also visible. The photos were shot from many angles in various lighting conditions.

The vase is in very good. Is a joining seam line along the length of the vase. Cracks in the body are not damage -- they are a result of the production process. See separate condition section, view.

Video and enlarge photos for a close look. Opening and base diameters are not perfectly round - top diameter is. Actual opening is 2-3/4" x 2-1/2". Base is 3-3/8" x 3-1/4".

Weighs 2 lb 3 oz. Note: This vase form is not watertight. DeLind signature is incised on underside. Doug DeLind is inspired by ancient and basic civilizations and children's art. "I find purity in ancient art, directness in the art of basic civilizations and joy in children's artwork.

Much of DeLind's pottery are tabletop and wall sculptures. A vase form, such as this, is hard to come by. A unique and exciting find.
