Gusso Reuss German Studio Art Pottery Vase Oxblood Copper Red Vintage Germany Description and Item Information Up for sale is this vintage Gusso Reuss German studio art pottery vase. Please excuse the glare in the photos.

This vase has an elegant, hand-thrown form with a richly mottled oxblood copper-red glaze. The surface displays beautiful tonal variation ranging from deep sang-de-boeuf red to pale frothy areas with lighter glaze near the rim and foot. The glaze has excellent depth and a softly variegated reduction-fired appearance. The vase measures approximately 7 7/8 inches tall with a maximum diameter of about 5 1/2 inches.

It weighs 2 pounds 7.4 ounces unpacked. This pot would make a fine addition to a collection of vintage European studio ceramics. Identification This vase has an impressed marking to its unglazed foot rim, REUSS.

" It was made by Gustav Otto "Gusso Reuss (1885 - 1962), a German chemist, glaze researcher, and studio ceramic artist known for his technically complex reduction and crystalline glazes. Inspired by Chinese Song Dynasty ceramics encountered during his travels in Asia, Reuss developed many original glaze formulas, including celebrated oxblood, flambé, celadon, and crystalline surfaces. Working from his Schöngeising studio near Munich, he earned international recognition for his richly colored, experimental art pottery, including a gold medal at the 1937 World's Fair. Condition The vase displays beautifully overall, with no chips. There is a minor, approximately 3/4 inch long fracture to the foot (please see Photo 6).

The unglazed foot has wear marks, and the interior has some soiling from use. Variations in glaze application and firing are as made. Payments must be received within three days of the end of the listing, unless prior arrangements have been made. And international government regulations prohibit such behavior.
