This exquisite piece has a wonderfully sculptural and perfectly balanced form, with a wonderfully textural deeply gouged pattern. A fabulous example of mid century Australian pottery and a must have for any Ellis collection!
This beautifully designed piece features deep vertical gouging to the elegantly shaped neck and foot, adding an appealing tactile element to the perfectly proportioned piece. A gouged band of organic leaf shaped forms surrounds the wide central body. A sleekly curved handle perfectly balances the design, with a pointed bird beak top rim completing the piece. This magnificent example has been beautifully glazed with contrasting layers of slate blue, charcoal and white. The glazes blend and combine creating random effects which beautifully accentuate the textural pattern The interior of the jug is finished in a vibrant flat blue glaze, adding an extra depth to the form. This striking modernist piece is presented in excellent vintage condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. This piece has been exceptionally well cared for and presents spectacularly.This exceptionally impressive piece stands approx 220mms tall and measures 150mms in diameter at its widest. This exceptional example is beautifully signed with an inscribed signature to the base "Ellis 16".
